The roads at the end of August start to get less crowded, the only issue I see in here is that you will be flying out from Alghero and to go from the west to the east and back is a hell of a ride and Im not sure youll be really able to enjoy the whole experience (unless you dont mind spending a significant part of your holiday moving and driving).
